With reference to my telegram No.213

dated 29th September, 1937, on the subject of the

S.S. "Severn Leigh" I have the honour to forward

for your information and for transmission to the

Board of Trade a statement showing the names and

disposal of those members of the crew who were

prosecuted in the Marine Court.

Except in the case of H. Steinman the

balance of wages has not been paid.

3:

The S.S. "Severn Leigh" sailed on 28th

September, 1937, for Hongay. The appeal by the

owners against the Marine Magistrate's decision

will be heard on her return to Hong Kong.

A newspaper report of the proceedings in

the Marine Court is enclosed for information.

It is unnecessary for me to emphasize the

vital importance to this Colony of maintaining the

coal trade with Japan, which at present supplies

about eighty per cent of Hong Kong's annual

consumption. Japanese ships are now largely
